Horse & Rider Training and Livery in North Wales About Dawn

To Anglesey and back
via Ireland!

Born on Anglesey (and a Welsh speaker), Dawn has been riding since the age of 12 when she started climbing aboard friends ponies bareback! Soon after she started showing Welsh Section B ponies, and by the age of 14 was competing all over North Wales, with her county-level debut being at the Anglesey Show.

After leaving school, Dawn attended Glyn Llifon college, then worked at Anglesey’s largest riding centre, Tal y Foel, for a further two years.

Moving to Ireland in 2003, Dawn worked and trained at a large competition and livery yard run by BHS examiner Jessica Soley. During her time in Ireland, as well as completing her BHS Stage 3 and qualifying as a BHSAI, Dawn gained experience on racing and point to point yards.

On returning to the UK in 2008, Dawn settled back into the area and launched her own business as a freelance riding instructor and horse trainer. Her son, Ryan, was born in December 2009 and is a regular fixture at the yard: he ensures Dawn is fully conversant and very sympathetic about the stresses faced by clients who may also be busy working mums!

Although concentrating on building up her business, Dawn occasionally finds time to compete her own horses, but is busy bringing on both her own youngster as well as clients’ horses.

Dawn keeps her own training topped up with regular lessons from Wayne Garrick, Jo Morris and Jake Taylor. In addition, in order to help both herself and her clientele reach their full potential, Dawn hosts clinics by visiting trainers from time to time - these are sometimes also open to outside customers (although usually fully booked by liveries!).

With an increase in her own competition commitments, Dawn is currently re-balancing her business: a reduction in her liveries has enabled her to increase her teaching availability.
